Lines learned silently off the page fall apart the moment another person speaks. Acting is listening: your line lives in response to the one before it, and reading both halves of a scene yourself teaches your ear the wrong rhythm. But a human scene partner is a luxury: they get tired, they’re not free at 2am before a callback, and nobody wants to run the same page fifteen times.
